About this Legacy Challenge

This is a Pinstar challenge. You can read about this and previous challenges at http://www.simslegacychallenge.com.  I have chosen not to keep score because–for me–the fun is in playing the game and not how many points I can score–I do not have a competitive bone in my body! Here are the laws of succession I have chosen to abide by:

• Strict patriarchy:  The Founder must be male. Only boys are eligible to be named heir. Female children cannot, under any circumstance, ever be the heir to the next generation.

• Strict traditional:  To be eligible to be named heir, a child must be naturally born from their previous-generation parents and be able to trace an unbroken bloodline back to the founder. Adopted children may never be named heir.

• First born:   The oldest, by order of joining the family, eligible living child is named heir.

My favorite TV show is Downton Abbey, so I thought it would be fun to emulate their initial challenges with the aristocracy. Enjoy!

 

UPDATE 11/1/2014:

So, there are a few rules I have broken, some knowingly and some  unknowingly, so I suppose this is no longer a textbook Pinstar challenge. He changed the rules recently to say that no one who moves into the house may bring in any money. I don’t see how additional funds enhance the challenge, so because I’m already halfway through the challenge, I will ignore this rule. Also, because there are fewer and fewer Sims generated “not in the world,” I have been forced to break the rule about not marrying neighbors and creating my own characters and moving them in the neighborhood. When the game only has literally five households to choose from, something is wrong and needs to be done. I have also violated the rule about only playing the legacy household in its own saved game. Because there is no real story progression, I’ve started to move my spares out of the house but continue playing them every now and then so they can have some sort of a life outside of the Pruett estate. Other than this, I’m still following all of the inherit rules of the challenge.

UPDATE 12/28/2014:

This challenge is getting less and less textbook! As an update to the last update, this has now become a hybrid between a legacy challenge and a rotational neighborhood story. My spares and their children’s stories are just too good to ignore when they move out of the house. I plan to incorporate their stories more often. As I am currently on generation seven, my goal is just to make it to generation 10 without getting bored. So, however I can do that–rules or no rules–I’ll do it. The only rules that are etched in stone are the original laws of succession.
